Tatyana Sherman D.O.


Dr. Tatyana Sherman is a fellowship-trained ophthalmologist specializing in anterior segment disease including cataract, refractive, and corneal surgery.

Education & Experience


Dr. Sherman received her bachelor’s degree with distinction in neuroscience from the University of Virginia. She earned her medical degree at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her residency in ophthalmology at Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital affiliated with Michigan State University, where she served as chief resident. She went on to complete an anterior segment disease fellowship focusing on cataract and corneal surgery, as well as refractive procedures here at Northwest Eye Specialists under the tutelage of Dr. Brock Bakewell, Dr. Brian Hunter and Dr. Jeff Maltzman.

Specializations


Dr. Sherman specializes in small-incision refractive cataract surgery utilizing the latest technology and intraocular lens implants. She educates her patients so they can be active participants in their care.

Dr. Sherman also specializes in corneal surgery. She performs corneal transplantation surgery, including DMEK (Descemet’s Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty), DSAEK (Descemet’s Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty), and full-thickness corneal transplants. She also performs pterygium surgery and other corneal surface procedures.

In addition to cataract and corneal surgery, Dr. Sherman performs refractive procedures such as LASIK and PRK. She also performs therapeutic BOTOX® injections for blepharospasm or hemifacial spasm.

Dr. Sherman has a passion for education and hopes to continue teaching students, residents, staff and patients throughout her career. She recognizes the impact all of her mentors had on her throughout her training, and hopes to provide that for others. She is involved in academic, clinical and surgical training of medical students and residents at the University of Arizona.

Outside of practicing ophthalmology, Dr. Sherman enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, running, or riding her gravel bike with her boyfriend Tim and their dog Nash.
