What Is Refractive Surgery?

At Fishkind, Bakewell, Maltzman, and Hunter, our highly-skilled eye surgeons use various safe surgical procedures to assist your eye’s ability to focus on light. While most refractive surgery methods involve reshaping your cornea, other procedures use special lenses to correct vision. We perform these refractive surgeries:

  • Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK)
  • RLE (Refractive Lensectomy/Refractive Lens Exchange)
  • ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens)

Are You a Candidate?

Not everyone can have refractive or laser surgery. Before any procedure, we will review your medical history and conduct a thorough exam to determine if you’re are a suitable candidate for refractive surgery.

Generally, a qualified candidate must be eighteen years or older, must have stable vision for two years, have no history of corneal disease or eye conditions, not be pregnant or nursing, and their eyeglass prescription must be within certain parameters.
