Workplace Eye Wellness: Protecting Your Eyes

Here at Fishkind, Bakewell, Maltzman & Hunter Eye Care and Surgery Center in Tucson, we specialize in both LASIK eye surgery and refractive eye surgery. It is our belief, however, that a better practice is taking care of your eyes before they start getting bad. Since most of our adult lives are spent in the workplace, it makes sense to do all you can to protect your eyesight while you are there. If you don't already have safety measures in use, today is the best time to start, so you can avoid visiting an eye surgeon in the future.

Wear Protective Eye Gear

If you work in front of a computer all day, consider wearing anti-glare lenses to prevent your eyes from becoming strained or drying out. If you are working in a high-risk area, never go without protective glasses even if you only plan on being in the area "for a minute". Accidents can happen literally in the blink of an eye.

Rest Your Eyes

Staring at a computer screen without a break for hours on end can put a major strain on your eyes. Make it a habit to rest your eyes for ten minutes every hour. Close your eyes to reduce light. Roll your eyes to help keep the muscles flexible and not put too much strain on any one group of muscles. Doing this will help you retain greater focus when you return to your work.
