Outpatient Surgery Center

Once performed only in hospitals, eye surgery has come a long way over the past 20 years. Most surgeries can now be performed safely and efficiently in outpatient surgery suites, avoiding the inconvenience and expense of a hospital admission. Our practice was an early advocate of outpatient eye surgery, and the Fishkind, Bakewell & Maltzman Eye Surgery Center has been an integral part of our approach to patient care since 1985. Today, our doctors perform over 1,000 surgeries yearly in the comfort of this modern, technologically advanced facility.

Upon arrival for your procedure, you will be greeted by one of our very special volunteers- long-time patients who have undergone surgery and now wish to make the experience more relaxed for you. A surgical team member will help dress you for the operating room, after which you will be made comfortable on a stretcher. A nurse will place an intravenous line (IV) for delivery of fluids and medication before and during your procedure. A board-certified anesthesiologist is present at all times to monitor your safety and comfort throughout your time in the surgical center. During your surgery you will be awake but very relaxed, and you will feel no discomfort. Once your procedure is completed, you will recover with a light snack for about 20 to 30 minutes before your discharge home.

We believe that modern technology is important for excellent surgical outcomes. Just as important, however, is the personal care you receive during your visit to our facility. We strive to make this experience as positive as possible, and our professional, highly trained staff is ready to assist you in any way necessary. Please feel free to contact Kathy Brown, R.N., surgery center manager, with any questions or requests.

It matters who you see.
